Syrah ‒ a variety from the south of France

One successful example comes from Château Duvivier, the Delinat Research Centre for Viticulture in Provence. The Les Hirondelles wine matured here is moulded by the Syrah grape, which gives the wine structure, power and elegance, as well as notes of garrigue shrubs, leather and mocha.
Syrah – [popular the world over
Along with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir, Syrah is one of the most popular grape varieties and is planted in many of the world’s wine regions. One focus of its cultivation is in the south of France where Syrah often forms a component of bold, red wines full of character. In combination with the indigenous varieties Grenache, Carignan and Mourvèdre, the Syrah grape produces some complex cuvées. It is to be found, for example, in the accessible everyday wine of Château Coulon, in the deep red wines that grow at the foot of the Montagne d'Alarcic and are produced by the Lignères brothers, as well as in the great Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
