Greece has a great wealth of indigenous grape varieties; around 300 are known. However, only a handful are significant for wine production. These include the red Agiorgitiko and the white Moscophilero from which both single-variety wines and assemblages are produced, in many cases in combination with well-known international varieties.

Greece – Cradle of European wine cultivation
The origins of European wine cultivation are located in Greece. It spread out from here. During the long period of Turkish rule from the 15th to the middle of the 19th century, wine production lost its significance in Greece.
